The only winter trout fishing I do is for the lake run feral type.  Wink

Small black flashback stones have done well for me in the limited fishing I have done for inland trout fishing.  There was one day when black #8 black stones were crushing trout in a driving snow storm.  My buffy kept a trout for a Christmas present for an elderly uncle and it was full of helgramites.  Take that for what it's  worth.
Lieutenant, is there a six-foot bat in Gotham City? And if so, is he on the police payroll? And if so, what's he pulling down after taxes?

This time of year for me its all about the egg patterns. Funny how I take them with me when I fish NJ and leave them at home when I fish NY.

If you tie them small ish they can be taken as a dead scud or an egg.. other then the incredible egg I would have to say a diamond midge.

Various Caddis and Midge Larva make up about 75% of NJ Trouts winter diet. Thread flies and weight are what I'm throwin'.

I hit the stream during a hail storm and was able to take five or so on a size 14 curved hook with a caddis type deer hair wing with a rabbit dubbed body.  I was using it as an indicator so I guess that's one of my new favorites.  Outside of that, I have to say size 20 or smaller black and white midges or tiny caddis pupae.  I've planned to fish during a forecast of snow showers on Friday so we'll see if I can get them to take the dry fly again.
